What If I’m Already In Therapy?

It’s easy to look back and wonder what would be different - if only…

But this kind of daydreaming is really just a distraction from what we need to do today - from the opportunity of what we can do today. Self-doubt pulls us backward to manipulate our fear and anxiety.

The truth is, we only have control over ourselves in the moment we are in right now. Everything else is the concept of if-then. That also means if-then is tangential to a million things outside our control. Knowing this, how do we push forward when stuck in a past we can’t change?

Well, when it comes to the past - we have to do the healing work and allow our past to inform our future in a positive way. Some of the work is pushing through blame and anger, some is grief, and some is even the mistrust of our own judgment. Once we move through these stages, there’s a place to look back with curiosity and self-compassion. When this groundwork is completed it’s a good time to invest in coaching with someone you trust.

People often ask me what is coaching? Coaching is a way to actualize a goal by creating steps to materialize a vision. Together with my client, we work to make this vision a reality. If you’re wondering how that’s different from therapy, therapy is the work you do (with a licensed therapist) to explore and heal from the past in a way that allows you to be at peace with where you are. It also elevates the emotional functioning in your daily life.

Coaching is not therapy. Coaching is the opportunity to build tools that take the growth achieved in therapy and move towards the hope and possibility of your future.
